Daniel Jacobs will get his first title shot since his down to the wire championship bout vs. Gennady Golovkin. The aforementioned title, the IBF, was stripped from GGG, after failing to fight Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Things have worked out pretty incredible for Jacobs, who after failing to look stunning in his last fight, has went from a possible negotiation with Canelo Alvarez, who was still flexing about moving on from the GGG rematch, to a title shot in a week’s time.
👑 The IBF have ordered Sergiy Derevyanchenko to fight Daniel Jacobs for their vacant middleweight title that was stripped from Gennady Golovkin. 30 days to negotiate or it goes to purse bids.

So, now Jacobs gets to fight for the belt again. Which is fine and all, Jacobs is a good guy. It’s just confusing because Sergiy and Daniel Jacobs have the same trainer…and manager. This makes you think that perhaps the fight may not be happening anytime soon. Despite there being word that efforts will be indeed made to make the fight happen.
He also is the number 3 contender, as Dervyanchenko is the number one contender. The IBF has no number 2 contender. I don’t understand what that’s all about either.
Also, what happens if Daniel Jacobs wins the IBF title? Will GGG get another crack at his title? Jacobs vs. GGG could be a pay per view in the making, and is why he wanted to fight under Eddie Hearn to earn opportunities like this.
This opportunity is much better than the low-ball offer for a potential September fight that Canelo Alvarez and Golden Boy were offering to Daniel Jacobs. An offer that also didn’t include drug-testing nor a weigh-in fight night for Canelo, thus, making it evident that Canelo had no real interest in fighting Jacobs after a year layoff.
In the now, Daniel Jacobs has another golden opportunity to rise among the ranks of premiere middleweight contenders. More importantly, he has a chance to solidify his reputation as a prize-fighter if he can win the IBF Title.
